Carolyn Glauda is an optimist in dark times.
Working for you, working for Beacon: Carolyn Bennett Glauda is a parent, a spouse, a librarian and a public servant who is focused on working with the community to guide our city into a thriving future.
I am running to represent Ward 4, the Southeast corner of the City of Beacon. I look forward to building a better Beacon that welcomes everyone who wants to live here. We are lucky to be a walkable city and we should stay friendly to pedestrians.
We need leaders who think long-term. As we attract new residents and develop, we must adhere to a comprehensive plan that works for today and tomorrow. To boost civic engagement, we should increase transparency in the legislative process.
A note from Carolyn: I’m just a normal person living in a time when politics are anything but normal. We’re now seeing that a democracy that took 250 years to build can be destroyed in months. I’m enraged, because no one has time for all this chaos! When Democrats are in charge, things just work and you are free to live your life. That’s the good governance Beaconites deserve.
The issues
Priorities for Ward 4:
Traffic Safety & Transportation
As a member of the Traffic Safety Committee since 2020, I have first-hand experience on our City’s trouble spots for speeding and traffic issues. I will look for pedestrian-friendly solutions for complete streets plans that accommodate people and all methods of transportation.
Housing
The City of Beacon is an attractive place for people to live. We need housing solutions for residents who are getting priced out of staying in the place where they set down roots. There is no one size fits all solution, and options should include affordable housing, low-income housing, and density.
Environmental Conservation
The climate crisis is upon us. We in Beacon have a part to play in preserving the nature that surrounds us and shoring up our infrastructure to guard against disasters such as floods, fires, ice, and drought. I support planting trees and preserving wetlands to mitigate pollution.
Recreation
What’s the point of living in a great city if you can’t have fun sometimes? Our natural surroundings make great places to play and relax. I am proud of the many parks and activities available to residents and I look to support and expand the access for families, seniors, and teens.
It’s about you!
Experience in public service
Some of what I do in Beacon:
Traffic Safety Committee
The committee meets on the fourth Thursday of every month. The agenda is comprised of requests from residents. As the resident member of the committee, I have represented the interests of pedestrians, parents, cyclists, drivers, and anyone who wants safe streets.
Board of Elections
Responding to a call at the height of the pandemic in 2020, I signed up to be a poll worker for the presidential election. I quickly learned that my knowledge of the community and understanding of technology were a perfect mix to process hundreds of voters and assure a safe and fair election.
Community Volunteer
This community has given me so much, and I feel responsible to give back whenever possible. Whether it’s addressing food insecurity, cleaning up the woods, pulling weeds, or working with young people, I enjoy giving of my time to help out the people who are getting the work done.
